French cuisine had its beginnings in 1650 under the rule of King Louis XIV. Louis promoted local French agriculture because France did not import many exotic items at the time. Contrary to our modern day dinner routines, during Louis’ time, food was eaten buffet style. Louis sent his household to the markets to buy the best and freshest food for the royal tables.
